Cougars Start Three-Match Road Trip at Kansas State

THIS WEEK: The 31st-ranked Washington State Cougars (10-2) will travel to Manhattan, Kan. To face Kansas State Thursday at 10 a.m.PT at the Body First Indoor Tennis Center. WSU then concludes the road trip Saturday in Lincoln, Neb., when it faces Nebraska at 10 a.m. PT followed by Iowa State at 5 p.m. PT.
 
ABOUT KANSAS STATE: Kansas State enters the match with a 7-2 overall record, having won its last four matches. That includes a 4-3 victory over then-No. 39 SMU, who the Cougars also defeated earlier this season. Kansas State enters the week with a No. 37 national rankings. WSU has faced the Wildcats each of the last three seasons, with the Cougars coming away with a 5-2 win in 2016 and KSU earning 4-3 wins each of the last two years.
 
ABOUT NEBRASKA: Nebraska begins the week with an 8-6 record, having won five of its last six matches. The cornhuskers hold a 2-1 advantage in the series, with WSU's lone win coming during the 1995 season.
 
ABOUT IOWA STATE: The Cyclones enter the match with a 4-2 record, having won its last two outings. Iowa State is looking for some revenge after these two schools football teams met at the 2018 Alamo Bowl, won by Washington State. The all-time series in tennis is tied 1-1, with WSU winning in 2006 and ISU winning in 1989.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Cougars dropped just its second match of the season, at No. 47 Gonzaga, 5-2.
 
UP NEXT: The Cougars open Pac-12 play when they travel to Salt Lake City for a matchup against Utah, Friday, March 8.
 
ROAD WARRIORS: Washington State is 12 matches into the season and Thursday's match at Kansas State marks the ninth match the Cougars have played on the road. With trips to Missoula, Mont., Stanford, Calif., Waco, Texas, West Lafayette, Ind. and Spokane, WSU will begin the match in Manhattan, Kan. having travelled more than 6,835 miles.
 
ITA RANKINGS: Washington State University women's tennis team is ranked No. 31 in the most recent ITA rankings. The ranking is down from No. 15 last week. The No. 15 ranking was the highest in program history. Additionally, Sophomore Michaela Bayerlova jumped from No. 63 to No 35 in the most recent ITA women's singles rankings while junior Melisa Ates improved her ranking and jumped to No. 106.
 
MIKSOVSKA CLIMBING CAREER WINS LIST: Cougar senior Aneta Miksovska enters the week with 90 career victories, tied for fifth on the all-time wins list at WSU. Former Cougar player and assistant coach, Eka Burduli, is also fifth with 90 career wins while Ksenia Googe is fourth with 92.
 
ROSTER BREAKDOWN: For the 2018-19 season the Cougars will have four new players to accompany the five returners. The returning roster consists of seniors Aneta Miksovska and Tiffany Mylonas, along with juniors Melisa Ates and Ege Tomey, and sophomore Michaela Bayerlova. Newcomers include junior transfer Jovana Knezevic along with freshmen Yang Lee, Savanna Ly-Nguyen and Hikaru Sato.
 
COACH HART: Lisa Hart is in her 16th season as the head coach at Washington State. Hart has accumulated a record of 212-179 (.542) over her tenure, finishing the 2018 season with a 21-7 record.
