THIS WEEK
The Washington State swim team will travel to Federal Way, Wash. to compete at the
2019 Pac-12 Swimming Championships Wednesday, Feb. 27 - Saturday, Mar. 2.
COUGARS AT THE PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Last season, the Cougars finished eighth at the Pac-12 Championships. Returning from
the record-breaking 800 free relay team is junior
Ryan Falk. Sophomore
Taylor McCoy
notched an NCAA "B" Standard time in the 200 back at the meet, clocking a 1:57.52
for 20th place.
LAST TIME IN THE POOL
The Cougars fell to Utah in their final home meet of the season, 167-93. Sophomore
Mackenzie Duarte led the way for the Cougars, earning 16 individual points and
winning the 200 breast, missing he Gibb Pool record by one second. Also swimming
well for the Cougars was freshman
Keiana Fountaine, who placed second in the 100
and 200 free. Junior

had a second place finish in their respective events.
LINNEA LINDBERG SWIMS HER FINAL HOME MEET AS A COUGAR
Recognized at the final meet against Utah, senior
Linnea Lindberg competed in
her final dual meet as a Cougar. Lindberg, a Stockholm, Sweden native, swam the
breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay team that placed second against the Utes.
Alongside teammates
Lauren Burckel, Sophia Balamaceda, and
Chloe Larson, the
team clocked the fourth-fastest time this season in the event, touching the wall in
1:46.04. Lindberg also placed third in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 breast.
COUGARS LEAD PAC-12 IN IMPROVEMENT RATE
Nationally, the Cougars are ranked 22nd based on improvement rates from this time
last year, according to an article released by SwimSwam. Washington State improved
82%, ranking them first in the Pac-12 for improvement. WSU sits just ahead Utah who
is ranked 27th in the nation with a 62% improvement rate.
PULLMAN NATIVE MAKING A SPLASH
Sophomore
Taylor McCoy continues to see success in the pool for the Cougars,
leading the team with 14 individual wins. McCoy's success has earned her conference
recognition, as she was named the Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week Jan. 23 after
securing three individual wins against a nationally ranked Arizona. McCoy leads the
team in four individual events: 100 and 200 back and 200 and 400 IM, and is in the WSU
All-Time Top-10 in the 100 and 200 back and 400 IM. The Pullman, Wash. native is 16th
and the fastest time by a sophomore this season in the Pac-12 in the 200 back, posting
a season-best 1:56.86 at the mid-season invite. McCoy is also 25th in the Pac-12 in the
400 IM, with a season-best 4:20.81.
COUGARS INK FOUR TO NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT
Four incoming student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to the Washington
State swim team. The 2019 signing class is comprised of Erin Harnum (Denver, Colo.),
Kate Laderoute (West Linn, Ore.), Michee van Rooyen (South Africa), and Mia Zahab
(Ottawa, Canada).
