HOUSTON Texas – Washington State continued there tear of the record books, adding seven more to the list. The Cougars ended the prelims with ten girls moving onto the finals with
Kate Laderoute,
Taylor McCoy, Mackenzie Durate and
Mia Zahab making finals in multiple events. WSU accounted for 12 new WSU All Time Top 10 records and is currently sitting at the third place overall.
"From Day 1 to Day 2 we had really good energy and we normally get better as we go. We started of Day 1 really well so today we just continued with that momentum" said Coach
Matt Leach "I am really excited with the direction we are headed, we are going to finish strong just like we always talked about. Overall today, we had 12 All Time Top 10 times which is awesome and we are going to finish strong tomorrow. Go Cougs!"
The Cougars picked up right from where they left off last night.
Taylor McCoy came out in the 400 IM and moved up to second place in the WSU All Time Top 10 list all while landing a NCAA B Cut time as well. McCoy ended up in second place overall in the event advancing to the finals along with teammates
Kate Laderoute,
Mia Zahab and
Mackenzie Duarte. In the finals McCoy, Duarte and Zahab all got new WSU All Time Top 10 times, McCoy landing in the second spot, Zahab in the fifth and Duarte rounding out the list in tenth. Zahab's time also qualified as a NCAA B cut time.
Following the 400 IM it was time for the 100 yard flyers to jump in.
Mia Zahab and
Sophia Balmaceda were the two Cougars to make finals for the event. Both of Zahab and Balmaceda notched new in season personal best times in the finals, Balmaceda shaved one full second off her in season best time and Zahab shaved six seconds off her in season best.
Washington State had four more girls qualify for finals this time in the 200 free. Swimming her fastest time to date
Ryan Falk kept her nine spot on the WSU All Time Top 10 list, moving on with Falk, Kieana Fountaine,
Michee van Rooyen and making her first appearance this weekend in the finals
Emily Barrier will join in on the fun. Both van Rooyen and Falk got new WSU All Time Top 10 times in the finals they are both tied for eighth in the standings, Barrie took the top spot in her final.
The next two races equaled success for the Cougars. Advancing to the finals in the 100 breast,
Lauren Burckel clocked in with a WSU All Time Top 10 moving up to the fifth place spot on the board, and
Mackenzie Duarte beat her in season best time to move on as well. Burckel came back in the finals and beat her time from the prelims earlier that morning to move up in the rankings to second place.
The final event of the morning was the 100 back and two Cougars advanced to the finals as well, Laderoute and McCoy, who added another new Top 10 time to her resume. Laderoute keeps getting faster as she beat her previous time from yesterday to boost herself up to the fifth spot of the WSU All Time Top 10 record books.
