COLFAX, Wash. – The Washington State women's and men's cross country programs hosted the 2019 NCAA West Regional at the Colfax Golf Club Friday afternoon.
WSU MEN
The men's squad, currently ranked eighth in the west region, finished seventh overall Friday afternoon, running a solid all-around race, totaling 177 points.
Sophomore
Amir Ado turned in an all-region earning performance on the day, finishing 24th overall against some of the top competition in the nation. Ado posted a time of 30:09.9, and spent much of the race in the top portion of the pack today. Following Ado was
Matthew Watkins in 30th place with a time of 30:23.9, and additionally Watkins saw himself in fourth overall place at one point during the competition. Crossing the finish line next for the Cougars was
Justin Janke with a time of 30:39.6, placing 36th overall.
Colton Johnsen was not far behind his fellow Cougs, finishing 40th overall with a time of 30:43.2. Rounding out the WSU men's squad was
Reid Muller in 47th place (30:51.7),
Zach Stallings finishing 48th overall (30:54.3), and
Cameron Dean in 90th (31:34.7).
Portland claimed the top spot on the day, totaling 65 overall points, followed by Stanford in second with 78 points, and Oregon in third with 90 total points.
WSU WOMEN
The Washington State women's program posted a ninth overall finish in the west regional out of the 35 overall teams competing, recording 272 points overall on the day.
Leading the way for the Crimson and Gray was sophomore
Zorana Grujic with a 39th place finish, and a time of 20:50.5 overall. Not far behind Grujic was teammate
Kaili Keefe in 42nd, posting a time of 20:56.0.
Josie Brown was the next WSU runner to cross the finish line, placing 49th overall in the regional with a time of 20:59.9 overall. Completing the field for Washington State was
Natalie Ackerley in 67th (21:12.3),
Erin Mullins placing 75th overall (21:18.6),
Jelena Grujic in 136th place (21:59.4), and
Melissa Hruska finishing 140th overall (22:01.1).
Stanford placed first overall in the west regional with a total of 39 total points, followed by Washington in second with 49 points, and in third, Boise State with 86 points.
