Emily Baumgart Named Women’s Player of the Year by Washington Golf

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington States University redshirt-junior golfer Emily Baumgart has been selected as the Washington Golf Women's Player of the Year for 2019.

"I am so excited for Emily for earning this honor," said WSU Head Coach Kelli Kamimura. "Emily has persevered through a lot of adversity and worked hard to achieve her goals on the golf course and in the classroom.  She is an exemplary student-athlete and we are so proud of her for her resilience and dedication to reaching her true potential! Congrats Emily!"

The award is presented to the individual within the geographic area of Washington state and Northern Idaho whose performance stood out above the rest. The Washington Golf Performance Points list was used as the primary guide for the selection.

Baumgart was the stroke-play medalist and reached the quarterfinalist at the Pacific Northwest Women's Amateur, had a top-10 finish in the Washington Women's Amateur and qualified for the 2019 U.S. Women's Amateur.

Baumgart has represented the Cougars in all three fall tournaments this fall season, helping WSU to a fifth-place finish to open their season at the Cougar Classic.

"Emily has grown immensely as a golfer, student and person since she arrived at WSU," added WSU Assistant Coach Emma White. "She overcame adversity early on in her collegiate career, coming back from two knee surgeries that resulted in her not being able to compete for a year. To see where she is today to win this award is a huge testament to Emily's character and work ethic."

Baumgart, along with the other recipients, will be honored at the 98th Washington Golf Annual Meeting, which is being held Saturday, Nov. 2, at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.
