Cougars Post Improved Times at No. 7 Stanford

Stanford, Calif. – Washington State traveled to Stanford, Calif. to take on the Cardinal in their first road dual meet and three-time defending national champion Stanfordcame away with the win. 
 

The Cougar underclassman stepped up today with impressive swims by junior Taylor McCoy, freshman Michee Van Rooyen and sophomores Lauren Burckel, Keiana Fountaine, and Sophia Balmaceda. Senior Ryan Falk did not let the underclassman have all the fun with impressive performances in her individual events.
 

With a personal best time in the 200 breast Burckel notched a second place finish. Burckel also placed second in the 100 breast. Balmaceda also notched a personal best time in the 100 fly placing second in the event. In the 100 free Foutaine clocked in for a third place finish.
 

Freshman power came out today with an exciting performance by Van Rooyen, shaving close to ten seconds off her personal best Van Rooyen placed third in the 1000 free. Later on in the meet she placed third again in the 500 free swimming four seconds faster than her personal best.
 

Falk came out with two strong performances notching two new personal best times in the 1000 free and 500 free finishing second in both events. In the 200 back and 400 IM McCoy notched two second place finishes.
 

"The girls had some impressive season-best times today. We want to continue to improve every time we touch the water,'' head coach Matt Leach said. "Our performance today against a team like Stanford was very solid.''
