STANFORD, Calif.  – Competing against a field that includes five of the nation's top 10 teams, Washington State Women's Golf sits in seventh place after a solid first day at the Stanford Intercollegiate Friday at the par-71, 6,195-yard Stanford Golf Course.

The Cougars opened strong and were two-over-par after the opening nine holes, then held on to finish the round at +7, 291, seventh in the 17-team field. Not only are five teams in the field ranked in the top 10, 12 teams are in the top 50.

"The team played solid today and the players did a great job of sticking to our game plan," said WSU Head Coach
Kelli Kamimura. "We look forward to getting back out on the course tomorrow afternoon."

Sophomore
Amy Chu led the way for the Cougars on the first day, posting an even-par round through the first 18 holes. Chu's round included four birdies and 10 pars as she is tied for 18th overall, four strokes off the lead. One stroke behind Chu is junior
Emily Baumgart, who finished at +1 (72), collecting two birdies on the day. Baumgart is tied at 23rd heading into round two.

Marie Lund-Hansen and freshman
Jiye Ham are currently tied for 45th after carding three-over-par, 74's. Sophomore
Darcy Habgood finished her round at +5, 76, and is tied for 65th.

Arizona State currently leads the field after a 6-under, 278, two strokes ahead of host Stanford. USC and Oregon are tied for third, four strokes off the lead. Individually, Angelina Ye of Stanford leads by one stroke over a group of six players after shooting a four-under-par, 67.
