In Case You Missed It
PULLMAN, Wash. – Despite controlling play for most of the night, No. 15 Washington State (9-3-0, 2-2-0) fell victim to some bad luck and timely defense by No. 25 Arizona (8-3-0, 2-2-0) as the Wildcats came to Lower Soccer Field and stole a 1-0 win over the Cougars on cold night on the Palouse. Throughout the contest the Cougars peppered the Wildcats' goal only to be turned away time and time again by Arizona's goalkeeper, Hope Hinsley and her backline. Even when the Cougs beat the young keeper they were not rewarded with a goal as three different times WSU saw its potential strike cleared off the line by Arizona's last defender. Two of the defensive saves came on one scramble in front of the net in the first half when back-to-back shots were saved by the Wildcats' defenders after one of 12 Cougar corner kicks on the night. The unlucky night left the Cougs open to trouble late as the Wildcats capitalized on a corner of their own in the game's waning minutes to break the scoreless draw and take the win. The Cougs would have three more good looks at goal in the final minutes of the game after the goal but would come up empty in seach of the equalizer.
Shulenberger thoughts on the match
"I think the first half went both ways and the second half we were all over them. We had numerous chances and their goalkeeper played out of her mind. We missed a lot of opportunities. We deserved to win tonight and we didn't get it done. Now we have to bounce back again."
