PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State volleyball program (7-0) swept through day two of the 2018 Cougar Challenge, defeating nonconference opponent Stony Brook 3-0 inside Bohler Gym Saturday afternoon.Â
Senior
Taylor Mims recorded kill number 1,000 in a Cougar uniform during the match, as Mims became the 14th player in Washington State Volleyball history to hit that milestone.Â
Set scores for the match were: 25-18, 25-13, and 25-16.
Set number one between the Cougars and the Seawolves was tightly contested early on, featuring a tie score at seven different points, until WSU created a 3-0 run to jump ahead at 14-11. Kills from four different Cougars,
Ella Lajos,
Claire Martin,
Ashley Brown, and
Jocelyn Urias, made up the final points scored as the home squad finished off Stony Brook, 25-18.Â
The second set of play saw Washington State once again assert dominance over an opponent, generating point runs of 7-1, and 6-0 to handle Stony Brook at 25-13 after back-to-back kills from Urias, and
Penny Tusa sealed the set win.Â
Stony Brook brought some more fight into set number three, jumping out to a 4-1 set lead over the Cougars, but was ultimately short lived as WSU built a 6-0 run to lead the Seawolves 20-12. Washington State sealed off the victory with a kill from Lajos and remains unbeaten on the year through seven matches.Â

The Cougars will next compete in the Western Kentucky Tournament in Bowling Green, Kentucky Sept. 14-15 where WSU will face Northern Illinois, East Tennessee State, and WKU throughout the weekend.Â
