2018 Season Opens Friday At Lower Soccer Field

ABOUT THE MATCHUPS
The 2018 season begins Friday at Lower Soccer Field with the #21/25 ranked Cougars hosting Seattle U. The Cougars have dominated the overall matchup with the Redhawks over the years with a 12-1-2 record including winning the last two meetings. Sunday brings Grand Canyon University to Pullman for the first time in program history. Throughout the years the Cougs have been successful in season openers having posted an impressive 22-5-2 record. In openers at home, WSU has gone 9-3-1 including a 0-0 draw against #19 Minnesota last season. The Cougs met Seattle in 2015 to open the season, taking a 3-1 win on the road to kick off a program-record 14 win season.

LAST TIME OUT
WSU played one preseason game, defeating San Diego, 2-1, on the road on Aug. 10. Down one goal with time ticking away, the Cougs came up with a late charge to find a pair of last minute goals that completed the comeback victory. In the win, last season's top scorers came up big with Maddy Haro equalizing in the 83' while Morgan Weaver won the game in the 85'.

WSU RANKED #21/25 TO START THE YEAR
After ending the 2017 season ranked in the top-25, the Washington State soccer team has picked up where it left off as the Cougars enter the 2018 season ranked No. 21 in the country as announced by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) poll. In the TopDrawerSoccer poll, the Cougars were ranked No. 25 to start the year. The Cougars' top-25 ranking marks the first time since the 2010 season, when they were also ranked No. 21 in the preseason poll, WSU has entered the season ranked. Prior
to last season's final ranking, the Cougars flirted with the top-25 throughout the year, receiving votes multiple times.
