Cougars Host Stanford and California to Close Home Schedule

THIS WEEK: Washington State tennis concludes its 2018 home schedule as it hosts No. 22 Stanford, Friday, April 13 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a Saturday matchup against No. 45 California, Saturday at 10:45 a.m. Both matches are scheduled to be played at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Cougars, currently ranked No. 37, enter the week with a 20-3 record, 5-2 in Pac-12 play. The 20 wins are a program best, eclipsing the previous mark of 19 set during the 1994 and 2012 seasons.
 
SCOUTING STANFORD: The Cardinal enter the week with a No. 22 ranking and record of 12-3, 6-0 in Pac-12 play. Stanford sits atop the conference standings and boasts four players among the top 85 of the ITA rankings, led by freshman Michaela Gordon, who is No. 15. The Cardinal have won each of the last two Pac-12 titles.
 
SCOUTING CALIFORNIA: California enters the week with a No. 45 ranking and an overall record of 10-6, 5-2 in conference play. The Golden Bears, who face Washington Friday before heading to Pullman, also have four players ranked among the top 90 in the most recent ITA poll, led by Anna Bright at No. 36.
 
UP NEXT: The Cougars close out their 2018 regular season schedule by visiting cross-state rival Washington, Saturday, April 21 at Noon. 
 
SENIOR DAY: Prior to the California match, WSU Tennis will recognize its lone senior, Barbora Michalkova, who will be playing her final match in Pullman. The As, Czech Republic native, has spent three years in Pullman and is having her best season in 2018, posting a 24-8 singles record and 14-7.
 
LAST WEEK: The Cougars split their two matches in the desert, falling at No. 39 Arizona State, 4-1, before defeating Arizona, 4-1 Saturday. The win over Arizona marked the first time in program history WSU tennis has won in Tucson.  
 
20-WIN SEASON: With the win at Arizona last Saturday, Cougar Tennis reached the 20-win plateau for the first time in program history.
 
WSU CONTINUES PRESENCE IN ITA TEAM RANKINGS: Washington State University moved to No. 37 in the most recent ITA team rankings, released Tuesday, after reaching a season-best 31 two weeks ago. The Cougars have been ranked in each of the last six ITA polls.
 
BAYERLOVA RANKED 30 IN ITA NATIONAL SINGLES: Following the most recent ITA singles rankings, freshmen Michaela Bayerlova moved up to a season-best No. 30, 13 spots ahead of her previous ranking at No. 43. Bayerlova was No. 54 in the first of 2018 ITA National Singles rankings and has been ranked in each poll since.
 
YUSUPOVA/MYLONAS ENTER DOUBLES RANKINGS: Sophomore Guzal Yusupova and junior Tiffany Mylonas entered the ITA Doubles rankings at No. 62 this week. The duo have posted an 18-1 mark this season, all coming in dual matches while playing No. 2. They are also 4-1 in Pac-12 play.
   
COACH HART: Lisa Hart is in her 15th season as the head coach at Washington State. Hart has accumulated 201 wins over her tenure, the most victories in school history. In 2012, the Cougars went 19-7 as Hart was awarded the Pac-12 Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the Year award.

  • With the win over Colorado April 1, WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart recorded her 200th victory while leading Cougar Tennis.

  • Tiffany Mylonas continues to lead the team with 28 singles victories, with Michaela Bayerlova closely behind with a 25-2 record.
  • The Cougars have six players with 20-plus singles wins.
  • Guzal Yusupova and Tiffany Mylonas are a combined 18-1 in doubles play this season and entered the ITA rankings at No. 62 this week.
