PULLMAN, WASH. - The Washington State swim team fell to No. 5 California at Gibb Pool Saturday, 158-95.
The Cougars posted nine season best times, while freshman
Keiana Fountaine won her sixth individual event of the season. California, the national champion runner-up a season ago, entered the week ranked No. 5 in the country and broke two Gibb Pool records.
Freshman
Keiana Fountaine continues to impress in her rookie campaign, earning her team-leading sixth individual win of the season. The Tracy, Calif. native dominated in the 200 free, finishing over two seconds ahead of Keaton Blovad from California with a season-best 1:49.52. Fountaine's win the 200 free was her third win in the event, after previously winning against Boise State and Idaho. Fountaine also took second in the 100 free and the 200 free relay alongside teammates

Paige Gardner, and
Chloe Larson.
Sophomore
Mackenzie Duarte had an outstanding showing for the Cougars, notching second place finishes and season-best times in both the 100 and 200 breast, touching the wall in 1:04.85 and 2:17.71, respectively. The Walnut Creek, Calif. native also took a third place finish in the 100 fly.
Sophomore
Taylor McCoy earned 10 individual points for her team with a second place finish in the 200 back and 400 IM and earning fifth in the 100 back.
Freshman

Chloe Larson, and junior
Ryan Falk each hit season-best times in their respective events. Gardner touched the wall in 24.52 in the 50 free and 54.51 in the 100 free. Larson clocked a season-best 1:01.52 in the 100 fly, while Falk touched the wall in 1:53.47 in the 200 free.
The Cougars will be back in action for their final dual meet of the 2018 calendar year Friday, Nov. 9, as they welcome University of Wyoming to Gibb Pool. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. and will be streamed live on wsucougars.com
