Kansas City, MO -Â Continuing to pull in awards for their stellar season, junior forward
Morgan Weaver and senior defender
Maddy Haro were each named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's All-Pacific Region Team. Weaver was named to the first team while Haro was tabbed for the second team. The award marked the second-straight season Weaver was honored among the elite players in the region while Haro took home her first all-region award after posting a career year in her final go-around for the Cougars.
The offensive leader for the Cougars, Weaver finished her junior season with a career-best 13 goals, nearly doubling her career total coming into the season. Her 12 goals during the regular season were the second-most among all Pac-12 players before she added a 13th goal in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against Montana. Making the most of her goals, Weaver netted four game-winners including picking up the winner against No.8 UCLA to begin Pac-12 play while also scoring a winning hat-trick against Washington to close out the regular season. Finishing the year, Weaver scored in four-straight games, prior to WSU's second round NCAA exit against Georgetown, netting six goals Weaver ended her season with a career-high 30 points as the junior chipped in four assists to go with her 13 goals, scoring or assisting on 41% of the Cougars' goals on the year. In all, Weaver's season ranked among the best in program history as her 13 goals tied for fourth all-time while her 30 points were the sixth most in a single season for the Cougars. With her selection to the first team, Weaver now moves on to the all-america vote with a chance to become just the second all-america in program history.
While Weaver put the ball in the back of the net it was Haro who set up the plays as the senior finished her final campaign with a program record 15 assists. Despite playing out of the back, Haro was the engine that made the Cougars' attack dynamic as she assisted on 37% of WSU's goals on the year, not including all the plays she started that saw others finish. Making things happen, Haro linked up with Weaver for five of her 13 goals while Weaver assisted on one of Haro's three goals. While holding the single season record for the Cougars, Haro just missed out on the all-time career record for assists finishing one shy with 22 total assists despite not recording an assist in her first two seasons at WSU.
