Cougars Sweep Oregon State Inside Bohler Gym

Mims leads WSU with 12 total kills, and a hitting percentage of .367

WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE
PULLMAN, Wash. – The No. 20 ranked Washington State Cougars (20-9, 11-8 Pac-12) swept through the Oregon State Beavers Wednesday evening inside Bohler Gym in the three set victory.

Set scores from the match were: 25-15, 25-9, and 25-18 in favor of the Cougars.

Washington State found an early rhythm in this one as the Cougars surged ahead of the Beavers of Oregon State (11-20, 1-18 Pac-12) with a 7-1 run with some help from Jocelyn Urias and Ella Lajos blocks, along with one kill from the duo each. WSU was not done there, as another scoring run of 5-1 propelled the home squad to a 25-15 set one victory, totaling 6.0 total blocks as a team as well. Taylor Mims recorded her first kill of the match on set point with a powerful swing to cap off the Cougars impressive opening set.

The Cougars looked dominate in set number two against Oregon State, as Washington State generated scoring runs of 6-0, 5-0, and 4-0 to hold a 16-3 advantage over OSU midway through set two. The offensive attack was firing all around for WSU with kills from McKenna Woodford, Ashley Brown, Mims, and Urias in the contest. Another run of 4-1 capped off the set victory for the Cougars, with all four kills supplied by Charity Bradley.

WSU looked to build the early lead once again against the Beavers, jumping out to a 12-6 advantage after a 3-0 scoring run fueled by a Woodford kill, and a Martin, and Woodford block saw the Cougars out in front. This third and final set began to heat up a bit late, as OSU built a 4-1 scoring run of their own to trail WSU 22-17. However Washington State had no trouble finishing off the Pac-12 opponent in three straight sets with back-to-back kills from both Lajos, and Urias for the 25-18 set victory.

Charity Bradley entered set number two and made an immediate impact totaling four kills on four attacks for a hitting percentage of 1.000 for the red-shirt freshman. Bradley set career-highs in kills, hitting percentage and total points tonight, helping fuel the Cougar offense.
