In Case You Missed It
WASHINGTON, D.C. –  In a fight to advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, Washington State soccer (13-6-1) fell just short of a second-straight sweet 16 bid as top-seeded Georgetown (19-0-3) defeated the Cougars, 1-0, Friday in the nation's capital. The Hoyas remained one of two undefeated teams in the country thanks to a goal in the 10', making a header off the first corner of the game stick against a tough Cougar attack. Knifing through the WSU defense, Meaghan Nally got her head on the end of a short ball by Grace Nguyen, finding the back of the net for the early strike. From the early goings the two teams were locked in an evenly played battle. The Cougars earned a slew of corner kicks throughout the game, 10 total, but could not convert any of their chances into goals. On the other side, the Hoyas had a handful of chances to grow their advantage, hitting the crossbar once and even seeing WSU's
Elaily Hernandez-Repreza clear a ball off the line to keep the Cougs within striking distance. In all, WSU was credited with forcing four Hoya saves in the game, seeing four different players put a ball on frame throughout the contest. On the other side,
Rachel Thompson posted four saves to go along with the one team save.
Quote of the Match
Head CoachÂ
Todd Shulenberger - "It's always tough to end your season especially when you have a special group of seniors. I am super lucky to been able to coach these ladies. It's been another great season for Coug Soccer. I am very proud of this team to accomplish another NCAA run. The season itself experienced a ton of highs while fighting through a ton of adversity. We are a proven contender now and I know this team will continue to grow and will be hungry for more while representing this great university! Thank you to everyone who made this all possible."Â
