The Cougar alum has been recognized for her international success.

PLOVDIV, Bulgaria - Following the conclusion of the World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, row2k announced former Washington State University rower, Lisa Roman, as the No. 14 rower in the world.

In order to qualify for such a ranking, a rower must have medaled at the most recent World or Olympic regatta. From there, each athlete receives a score, which is based on where they placed in each of their races. Races are scored as far back as the two most recent Olympics, and all World Championships in between.

A native Canadian out of Langley, B.C., Roman solidified her No. 14 ranking with her efforts in five World Championships and the 2016 Olympics as a member of the Canadian women's eight crew. In three of those championships Roman won silver, in 2014, 2017 and 2018. In her other two championship trips, Roman managed to take home the bronze in 2013 and 2015. Roman's Canadian eight crew placed fifth at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Roman won gold for British Columbia in women's pairs and women's fours at the 2009 Canada games. She also placed eight in singles and ninth in women's heavyweight pairs at the Canadian University Championships her freshman year.

A transfer from University of the Fraser Valley, Roman competed with the Cougar varsity rowing team for three seasons, rowing in the varsity boat all three years (2010-12). She is a two-time all-conference honoree, and in 2012 was named to the CRCA All-West Region First Team and the Pocock All-America Second Team. In 2015-16, Roman was named to the Pac-12's All-Century Women's Rowing Team. Roman has been competing with the Canadian National Team since 2014. Prior to that she rowed for Canada's Western Rowing Club at the Henley Royal Regatta in 2011 and in the Under-23 World Rowing Championships in 2011.
