WSU TO HOST OREGON STATE FRIDAY: The No. 15 Washington State women's rowing team hosts its only home regatta of the season against Oregon State Friday, April 6, at Wawawai Landing...racing was scheduled for Saturday, but due to forecasted inclement weather, the regatta was moved up to Friday...the two teams will race over a 2,000-meter course at Wawawai Landing...racing begins at 5 p.m., with the varsity four heat...followed by the second varsity eight heat at 5:15 p.m...at 5:30 p.m., the varsity eight crews will battle...the regatta concludes with the third varsity eight and novice eight crews racing at 6 p.m.
THE 2018 WINCHELL CUP & CRAWFORD PERPETUAL PLATE: Washington State and Oregon State meet each spring to compete for the Crawford Perpetual Plate and the Winchell Cup...the Crawford Perpetual Plate has been awarded each year since 2003 and is named after the Cougars' first rowing coach, Tammy Crawford...the plate is awarded to the winner of the varsity eight race...the Winchell Cup has been awarded each year since 2001 and is named after 11-year novice coach, Jodi Winchell...the cup is awarded to the team with the most total points on the day, with points awarded based on the boats' finishes.
LAST YEAR VERSUS OREGON STATE: Then-No. 15 WSU swept Oregon State in all five races to win an eighth-straight Winchell Cup, and the varsity eight captured the Crawford Perpetual Plate for a third-consecutive year, April 8, 2017...the WSU varsity eight crossed the finish line at 6:43.810, followed by Oregon State at 6:51.570...WSU's second varsity eight finished two seconds ahead of the OSU with a time at 6:58.530...the Cougar varsity four finished at 7:49.170, crossing ahead of the Beavers by four seconds...the Washington State second varsity four completed the course at 8:24.03, while OSU crossed at 8:33.07...in the last race of the morning, WSU's third varsity won with a time at 7:19.660 followed by the fourth varsity eight at 7:25.750.

The cups are named in honor of the women who came before us."
COUGARS RANKED 15TH IN USROWING/CRCA POLL: WSU is ranked 15th in the nation in this week's USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I Coaches Poll presented by Pocock Racing Shells, released April 4...Washington State's No. 15 ranking keeps it in the nation's top-15 for a 31st-consecutive week dating back to March 25, 2015...overall, WSU has been ranked in the top-20 for 99-consecutive weeks, dating back to June 11, 2008...five of the seven Pac-12 rowing teams are ranked in the top-20 poll, Washington-first, California-second, Stanford-T-seventh, USC-14th, and WSU-15th…UCLA (10) and Oregon State (5) are receiving votes.
COACHING STAFF: Jane LaRiviere is in her 16th year as head coach of the WSU rowing program...as a team, the Cougars have raced in 11 NCAA Championships and five-straight under LaRiviere...she is joined by associate head coach Karl Huhta, assistant/novice coach Brandon Campbell, coordinator of operations Amy Van Buskirk, and graduate assistant Dave Kempsell...Huhta is in his fourth year with the Cougars, and first year as associate head coach…Campbell is in his third year and first as novice coach…Van Buskirk and Kempsell are each in their first year with the Cougars.
