LUBBOCK, Tex. - With 18 holes in the books at the 2017 NCAA Regionals in Lubbock, junior Alivia Brown finds herself amongst the pack after shooting an opening round +4, 76, Monday at at the Rawls Course. At four-over, Brown sits tied for 36th among the participants in Texas Tech regional as she will look to make a run into contention over the final two days of play in search of an individual berth into the NCAA Finals. At the top of the leaderboard sits UCLA's Lilia Vu who paced the field with a -4, 68.
For Brown, her second career run in the NCAA Regionals got off to a rocky start as the third-year golfer found her self three-strokes back of par before picking up her first birdie of the morning session on the par-5, 17th. Brown took advantage of the course's longest hole as she needed just four shots to finish off the 587-yard behemoth. After finishing off the back-nine holes at three-over, Brown made the turn onto the courses font-nine where she would finish off her day. Getting back on track, Brown immediately picked up a stroke on the par-4, 1st, and another on the par-4, 5th, after giving one back two holes prior. Looking to cruise into the finish, Brown hit bump in the road with just two holes to play, carding a six on the par-4, 8th, which cost the junior two shots and closed her round out at 76.
To advance to the NCAA finals, Brown has to finish as one of the top-three individuals in the tournament that are unattached from one of the top-six qualifying teams.
Brown will tee off round two of the tournament at 8:50 CDT from hole 10 alongside of Coastal Carolina's Malene Krolboll Hansen and UC Riverside's Jakeishya Le.
