Women's Golf Concludes Play at Pac-12 Championships

The Cougars finished 11th among eight ranked teams.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Washington State women's golf team concluded its 2016-17 regular season, Wednesday, finishing in 11th place at the Pac-12 Championships.

WSU fired its best single-round score of the tournament in the final round, shooting 17-over at the par-72 Sewailo Golf Club. The Cougars carded a three-round score of 935 (+71) and finished four strokes back of No. 21 California, which took 10th place. 

After leading every round, No. 6 UCLA won the tournament and was the only team to finish under par at 2-under (862). No. 26 Colorado took second place (+19, 883), while No. 3 Stanford (+20, 884) finished third. Rounding out the top-five was No. 14 Arizona (+23, 887) and No. 10 USC (+30, 894) which finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.

In her first Pac-12 Championship appearance, freshman Marie Lund-Hansen tied for 33rd place. The Denmark native carded three consecutive birdies on the front nine and shot 3-over on the day to end play with a score of 231 (+15). Junior Alivia Brown finished the tournament tied with Lund-Hansen for 33rd after shooting 5-over in the final round. 

Senior Cherokee Kim finished in 48th place, four strokes behind Lund-Hansen and Brown. Kim ended the tournament with a three-round total of 235 (+19). 

Sophomore Madison Odiorne carded the best score for the Cougars in the final round, shooting 2-over par. Odiorne tallied three birdies in the third round and tied for 51st with two other golfers (+27, 243). Junior Bree Wanderscheid finished in 54th place (+33, 249).

The conclusion of the 2017 Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships marks the end of Washington State's regular season. The 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regionals will take place May 8-10, with selections being announced Thursday, Apr. 27, at 8 a.m. PT on the Golf Channel.
