STANFORD, Calif. – The 10th-ranked Stanford Cardinal captured the first three singles matches completed en route to a 4-0 victory over Washington State Friday at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
 
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 10-13 on the season, 0-8 in Pac-12 play, while Stanford remains atop the Pac-12 standings at 16-2, 8-09 in conference actin.
 
The match began with doubles play and the Cardinal jumped out quickly. At No. 3 the pair of Emma Higuchi and Caroline Lampl posted a 6-0 victory over WUS's Guzal Yusupova and Ege Tomey. The nation's 67th-ranked pair of Emily Arbuthnott and Taylor Davidson clinched the opening doubles point with a 6-1 win over Aneta Miksovska and Victoria Matejevic, at No. 1. The remaining match between WUS's Barbora Michalkova and Melisa Ates against Stanford's Melissa Lord and Carolina Doyle, ranked No. 40 nationally, was stopped with Stanford leading 4-2.
 
In singles action Stanford captured wins at four, five and six to secure the team victory. At No. 6 Higuchi completed a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tomey while Lampl was next off with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Matejevic at No. 4. The match was clinched at No. 5 when Arbuthnott, ranked No. 108 nationally, defeated Ates, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Three matches remained on court when play was stopped. At No. 1 Michalkova was trailing No. 54 Doyle, 7-5, 5-2 while Yusupova was down 6-3, 5-2 against No. 20 Lord. Miksovska was down 6-3, 5-2 to No. 45 Davidson at No. 3.
 
The Cougars conclude their Bay Area road trip Saturday when they face No. 16 California in Berkeley. Match time is set for Noon.
