Cougars Set to Face Colorado and Utah

THIS WEEK: The Washington State women's tennis team resumes Pac-12 Conference play by traveling to face Colorado and Utah. The Cougars will face Colorado Friday, March 24 at 12:30 p.m. PT, then travel to Salt Lake City to face the Utes, Sunday, March 26 at 10 a.m. PT. The Cougars enter the week with a 9-6 overall record, 0-1 in Pac-12 play. Colorado begins the week with an 8-5 record, 0-2 in conference while Utah enters the weekend with a 5-3 record, 1-1 in conference action.

WASHINGTON STATE/COLORADO HISTORY: The Cougars hold a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series, including a 6-1 victory last season in Pullman. The last time the teams met in Boulder, Colorado came away with the 4-3 win.

 

WASHINGTON STATE/UTAH HISTORY: The Cougars lead the all-time series against Utah, 7-6, including a 4-2 victory last season in Pullman. Utah had won the previous three meetings, including two in Salt Lake City.

 

UP NEXT: The Cougars return home to host the Southern California schools next week, Friday, March 31 against No. 40 USC at 1:30 p.m. then Sunday, April 2 against No. 19 UCLA at 10 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Cougars dropped a 4-0 contest at UNLV March 15.

·         Freshman Guzal Yusupova has had the clinching victory in five of WSU's nine wins this season

·         Freshman Melisa Ates leads the team with 20 singles victories

·         Freshmen Ates and Yusupova are tied with a team-high nine dual-match wins

ROSTER BREAKDOWN: For the 2017 season, the Cougars will boast a lineup that features four freshmen, one senior, one junior and a sophomore. The returning roster includes senior Victoria Matejevic, junior Barbora Michalkova, sophomore Aneta Miksovska, and freshmen Melisa Ates, Lejla Colic, Ege Tomey and Guzal Yusupova.

COACH HART: Lisa Hart is in her 14th season as the head coach of Washington State. Hart has accumulated a 180-160 record, the win total being the most of any coach in WSU tennis history. In 2012, the Cougars went 19-7 as Hart was awarded the Pac-12 Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the Year award.
