Cougar Swimming Breaks School Record at Pac-12 Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. –The Washington State swim team broke the 800 free relay school record on the first day of the Pac-12 Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.

"The Cougs had a very good night tonight," WSU Head Coach Tom Jager said. "Solid start in the medley relay and then a great finish of the night by the 800 free relay team. These swimmers broke a school record tonight because they swam smart and tough. That is what we pride ourselves on here at Washington State. Go Cougs!"

WSU added to the record books in the 800 free relay when the quartet of senior Addisynn Bursch, junior Rachel Thompson, sophomore Jasmine Margetts, and freshman Ryan Falk touched the wall in 7:14.51, surpassing the previous record by nearly four seconds. The time placed the team seventh and picked up 46 points for the Cougars.

In the 200 medley relay, the team of junior Hannah Bruggman, freshman Angela Mavrantza, junior Anna Brolin and Bursch clocked a time of 1:39.65, just behind the current school record of 1:39.13 set last year at the Pac-12 Championships. This time placed the Cougars eighth in the event, tallying 44 points for the team.

Stanford leads the field after day one with 128 points. Washington State is in seventh with 90 points, even with the Utah Utes, after the first day of competition.

Washington State will return to the pool tomorrow to continue the Pac-12 Championships with the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay.
