The Cougs look to shake off their opening loss against the Gaels.
WASHINGTON STATE (0-1) at SAINT MARY'S (0-1)
1 p.m. | Sunday | Nov. 12, 2017
Moraga, Calif. | McKeon Pavilion (3,500)
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
The Cougs and the Gaels face off for the third-straight season after locking horns in 2015 (SMC 75-71) and 2016 (WSU 85-69). All-time SMC holds the edge, 5-3, including a 3-1 record at home in Moraga. Last season, the Cougs had four in double-figures as Junior guard Caila Hailey recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while junior forward Louise Brown added 14 points and eight rebounds, hitting a pair of three-pointers. Sophomore guards Borislava Hristova and Alexys Swedlund added 14 and 11 points, respectively. WSU forced 24 turnovers and received 33 points from its bench.
LAST TIME OUT
In a rematch of their post-season tilt from a season ago, the Cougs (0-1) could not repeat their winning ways as UC Davis (1-0) put together a record shooting night to down WSU, 91-76, Friday night in The Pavilion at UC Davis. From the outset the Cougs found themselves chasing the Aggies who started the game hot from downtown and never cooled off, tying a program-record with 17 made three-pointers. The barrage from deep allowed the Aggies to break open the game in the first half behind a 9-0 run in the first quarter and 17-2 run midway through the second that put WSU down by 22. In all, UC Davis would hit 10-of-15 from distance in the opening half. The hole proved too much to overcome as the Cougs attempted to claw their way back into the contest, only to get knocked down each time by another Aggie three-ball. In all, the Cougs would finish with three in double-figures including a game-high from 19 points from Borislava Hristova who made her return to the lineup after missing 27 games due to injury last season.
ABOUT THEÂ GAELS
Saint Mary's enters the game Sunday coming off of a close 87-80 loss at Cal Friday night. The Gaels held tough against the Bears, but ultimately saw Cal pull away at the end. Sydney Raggio started the year off with a double-double of 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Stella Beck finished with a game-high 22 points, shooting 8 for 14 from the field and matching a career high with three 3-pointers. Prior to the start of the season, Saint Mary's was picked to finish second in the West Coast Conference after returning four starters from a 20-win team last year.
