Cougs Drop Their Season Opener at UC Davis
November 10, 2017 | Women's Basketball
The Aggies' record shooting night proved too much to overcome on the road.
In Case You Missed It
DAVIS, Calif. – In a rematch of their post-season tilt from a season ago, the Cougs (0-1) could not repeat their winning ways as UC Davis (1-0) put together a record shooting night to down WSU, 91-76, Friday night in The Pavilion at UC Davis. From the outset the Cougs found themselves chasing the Aggies who started the game hot from downtown and never cooled off, tying a program-record with 17 made three-pointers. The barrage from deep allowed the Aggies to break open the game in the first half behind a 9-0 run in the first quarter and 17-2 run midway through the second that put WSU down by 22. In all, UC Davis would hit 10-of-15 from distance in the opening half. The hole proved too much to overcome as the Cougs attempted to claw their way back into the contest, only to get knocked down each time by another Aggie three-ball. In all, the Cougs would finish with three in double-figures including a game-high from 19 points from Borislava Hristova who made her return to the lineup after missing 27 games due to injury last season.
Coach's Quote Of The Match
"We got a little bit tight offensively and defensively our rotations were extremely late...They were hot, they were on fire and we were about a step late on all of our rotations. We dug a huge hole but I thought our players continued to fight and to compete...Credit to them (UC Davis). A very good team that played hard and played together."
