Cougars Sweep Singles Matches at Wildcat Fall Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – Washington State tennis swept all seven singles matches on the final day of play at the 2017 Wildcat Fall Invitational Sunday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

In the top singles flight, freshman Michaela Bayerlova, sophomore Guzal Yusupova and junior Tiffany Mylonas all won, finishing the tournament 3-0 and sharing the flight title. Bayerlova had no trouble defeating New Mexico's Diana Wong, 6-0, 6-0, while Yusupova needed three sets to defeat Danielle Quevedo of New Mexico, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. Mylonas completed her tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over UNM's Hsiang-Wen Huang, her second tournament title in as many weeks.

 In the second flight, senior Barbora Michalkova and junior Aneta Miksovska each posted straight-set wins to share the flight championship. Michalkova posted a 7-5, 6-0 win over Sophia Thomas of Arizona while Miksovska cruised past New Mexico's Lauren Rich, 6-0, 6-0 in her match. Both players went 3-0 in the flight. Also competing in the second flight was sophomore Melisa Ates, who defeated Marquette's Lesley Foe, 6-4, 6-4, to finish the tournament 2-1 in singles action.

In the third flight, sophomore Ege Tomey captured a convincing 6-0, 6-0 victory over New Mexico's Jaci Fulgenzi.

The Wildcat Invitational concludes the Cougars' fall tournament schedule. WSU will begin its spring season Jan. 4-6 at the Hawaii Invitational.
