The Cougs finally return home to Beasley Coliseum for the first time in over a month as WSU hosts #7 UCLA in the first of two at home against the Pac-12's SoCal schools. The Bruins were the preseason favorites to win the Pac-12 and come into the week the highest ranked team in the conference at No. 7 in the coaches' poll, their highest ranking since 1999. They took down previously unbeaten Utah to start conference play on Friday and have just two losses on the year, both to teams in the top-6. All-time, the Bruins hold a 52-7 advantage over the Cougars and have won the last six contests. WSU last won on March 1, 2012 at home in Beasley, taking the game, 76-65.
LAST TIME OUT
Dominating for 40 minutes on the road, the Washington State women's basketball team kicked off the new calendar year with an impressive 75-59 win over Oregon in Eugene. Closing out a month on the road, the Cougs saw all of their work come to fruition as WSU came up with one of their most complete and well-balanced efforts of the season. In the victory the Cougars saw four players score in double-figures led by a career-effort out of their freshman point,
Chanelle Molina, who scored 20 points for the first time. Not to be outdone, sophomore
Alexys Swedlund poured in 16 points for the Cougs while hitting 3-of-7 from deep. Junior
Caila Hailey came up with her own career-effort with 12 points while working as the Cougars' defensive catalyst that held Oregon to a season-low 59 points and forced the Ducks into 21 turnovers. Rounding out the scoring, senior
Ivana Kmetovska finished her afternoon with 10 points to record her third-straight double-digit game to begin Pac-12 play.Â
