WSU OPEN INDOOR TRACK & FIELD MEET SET FOR JAN. 20-21
Washington State University's 15th Annual WSU Indoor Open takes place Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20 and 21, in the Indoor Facility on the Pullman campus…WSU Indoor Facility's Mondo track features racing on a 60m straightaway, and a 200m oval…jumping and throwing field events are contested on the turf inside the oval…discus, weight throws, triple jumps and men's pole vault take place Fri., Jan. 21...remaining field events and all running events begin Saturday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m...no late entries will be accepted...spectators are admitted without charge for all WSU Track & Field competition in 2017...no live stats and no webcast...results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, following the meet's completion.
WAYNE PHIPPS, DIR. OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (University of British Columbia '91) is in his third season with the Washington State track and field program...he became the 15th men's coach and the second coach for the combined men's and women's program at WSU on July 1, 2014, after 19 years at the University of Idaho...Phipps led the Cougar men's cross country program back-to-back NCAA Championships at-large berth appearances with a 14th-place finish in 2016: the highest in 32 years after the entire 2015 team that placed 26th returned for the 2016 season....during the 2016 Track & Field season, a pair of Cougs earned second-team All-America honors...Cougars tallied 25 new entries into the WSU all-time top ten records...while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 conference titles.
