PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State tennis team won its second match of the day with a 7-0 victory over the Eastern Washington Eagles, Friday at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
Beginning with doubles play, the No. 3 pair of
Melisa Ates and
Victoria Matejevic defeated Katrina Domingo and Carolina Lopez, 6-0, while
Guzal Yusupova and
Barbora Michalkova outdueled Faye Worrall and Erin Blessing 6-1, at No. 1, to clinch the point. The No. 2 duo of
Aneta Miksovska and
Lejla Colic led Rachel Swindell and Marta Heinen, 5-2, when the match was stopped.
In singles action, No. 2 Michalkova put WSU up 2-0 by defeating Swindell in two sets 6-1, 6-2. At No. 4, Colic followed her lead, outdueling Lopez with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
At No. 1, Yusupova clinched the match for the Cougars with a solid 6-3, 6-4, win over Worrall, while Matejevic, at No. 3, kept the Cougars hot streak alive by defeating Blessing 6-2, 6-3.
Ates defeated Heinen in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5, while
Ege Tomey finished the day off strong by defeating Valetina Sottile 6-1, 6-3, completing the Cougars sweep.
The Cougars return to the court Saturday Jan. 21, at 10:00 a.m., to face Montana, and again at 5 p.m., taking on Montana State at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
