Italy Daily Journal - Conor Clifford

Conor Clifford: Aug. 6, 2016 

We had a great start to the day, when were able to enjoy a rooftop breakfast with a view of the North Roman walls and St. Peters basilica in the distance.  The first thing on the agenda after the breakfast was to head over to tour the Vatican.  I knew that Vatican City was going to be a one of the great wonders I was going to see during the whole tour of Italy, but even that was an understatement to its magnificence.  The many different histories and cultures of the different eras that have existed on the site were all perfectly maintained or restored.  And the Sistine Chapel was definitely the highpoint for the tour for me.  The signs spoke of the how there was no cameras allowed on the site out of respect of the sacred and holy ground, but I only understood that when I step in to see Michelangelo's work.  The end of the tour wrapped up nice and we got to see a few of the Swiss Guard.

The rest of the day was spent in preparation for the main reason why we were here…Game time.  We had a 45 minute drive through the Italian country side to the arena that we would compete in.  The team that we faced, 2F Sport Management was an American stereotype of European basketball; physical, smart and very skilled.  Although the pace of the game that we set from the start would put much need pressure for us to jump out to a large lead.  Then even with unselfish play our lead would extend even further.  It was interesting to play against a European club for all the players handled themselves with a different swagger than we were used to with American players.  Overall the day was great, we got to see great sights, and we got the win.
