MARICOPA, Ariz. – In its best finish since October, the Washington State women's golf team finished third at the Cowgirl Classic, Tuesday, at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
WSU (+21, 885) finished 12 strokes back of tournament-champion Idaho (+9, 873) and four strokes back of second-place finisher Santa Clara (+17, 881). WSU was the only team in the field of 19 to shoot under par in the third round (-1, 287).
Five Cougars finished in the top 25, separated by two strokes. Sophomore Alivia Brown led the team and tied for ninth at 220 (+4). Brown finished 13 strokes back of tournament-champion Annie Freman of Santa Clara (-9, 207).
Junior Cherokee Kim tied for 13th (+5, 221), one stroke ahead of seniors Monica Huang and Nani Yanagi, and freshman Madison Odiorne, who competed as an individual. The trio tied for 15th at 222 (+6). Huang shot 3-under par (69) on the day, a tournament-best for the Cougars.
Sophomore Bree Wanderscheid tied for 52nd (+16, 232).
The women's golf team returns to the green for the PING/ASU Invitational, April 8-10, at the ASU Karsten Golf Course.
