Nine Cougars Earn Pac-12 All-Academic Honors

SAN FRANCISCO – Junior Hailey Johnson and senior Presley Wetterstrom of the Washington State swim team were named to the Pac-12 Conference All-Academic First team, conference commissioner Larry Scott announced, Tuesday.
In total, nine Cougars swimmers garnered academic honors from the conference, including two second team honors, with five receiving honorable mention. To be eligible for selection to the all-academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's competitions.
Johnson was named to the all-academic first team with a 3.83 GPA for the second year in a row. As a member of the WSU Honors College, Johnson is pursuing a degree in biology. Wetterstrom earned a first team selection for the third-consecutive season. Wetterstrom tied for the second-highest GPA on the list at 3.98, she is studying management and operations.
Senior Michelle Berry earned a second team selection with a 3.49 GPA in social sciences, in her first year of eligibility. Senior Loree Olson also earned second team honors with a 3.61 GPA in sport science, after earning honorable mention honors last season.
Senior Frederikke Hall (3.36/sports science) junior Elise Locke (3.45/strategic communication), redshirt-sophomore Anna Rosen(3.45), sophomore Anna Brolin (3.00) , and sophomore Rachel Thompson(3.12) all earned honorable mentions. Hall and Rosen both received honorable mentions last season and Locke earned second team honors last season.
The Cougars have a history of doing well in the classroom. Last season, they had ten swimmers earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors. In February 2015, the team earned Team Scholar All-America honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
