Cougars Head to Pac-12 Championships

THIS WEEK: The Washington State women's golf team will close out the regular season at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships, hosted by California, at Pleasanton, Calif., Monday through Wednesday, April 18-20.

THE TOURNAMENT: One round will be played each of the three days at the par-72 Ruby Hills Golf Course…teams will tee-off beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, with WSU and in-state rival Washington teeing off at 10:20 a.m.…the second and third rounds will start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

THE FIELD: All Pac-12 schools which sponsor golf will compete at the event, including No. 2 USC, No. 4 UCLA, No. 10 Arizona State, No. 11 Arizona, No. 12 Stanford, No. 13 Washington, No. 15 California, No. 20 Oregon, No. 40 Colorado, Oregon State, and Washington State.

REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougars will be sophomore Alivia Brown, senior Monica Huang, junior Cherokee Kim, senior Nani Yanagi, and sophomore Bree Wanderscheid.

LAST TIME AT THE PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS: WSU finished 11th (+49, 901) at the 2015 Pac-12 Championships, hosted by Colorado at the Boulder Country Club, an event which featured nine top-40 teams…Arizona, then-ranked No. 6, won the tournament at 1-over par (853)…Brown and then-senior Kristen Rue tied for 32nd at 10-over (223)…the duo finished four strokes ahead of Kim, who tied for 41st (+14, 227)…Wanderscheid finished 47th (+17, 230).

LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: WSU tied for eighth with No. 4 Northwestern and the 2015 NCAA runner-up, No. 54 Baylor at the PING/ASU Invitational, April 8-10, at the ASU Karsten Golf Course…in a field that contained nine top-35 teams, WSU (+30, 894) finished seven strokes ahead of No. 31 Colorado (+37, 901)…the top-three consisted of three ranked Pac-12 opponents, led by No. 3 UCLA (-12, 852)…Brown tied for 29th (+6, 221), 18 strokes back of tournament-champion Bronte Law of UCLA (-12, 204)…Huang tied for 31st (+9, 225), while Kim tied for 41st (+10, 226).

COACHING STAFF: The Cougars are led by seventh-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the team to its lowest team scoring average in school history last season…assisting Kamimura is WSU alumna and second-year assistant coach Emma Betland, who golfed for the Cougars from 2010-2013.
