SAN LUIS OBSIPO, Calif. – The Washington State women's golf team finished 14th among a talented field at the Bruin Wave Invitational, Tuesday, at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
"It has been a challenging start to the spring season for us, but we have learned from these challenges and grown as a team," WSU Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said. "I believe deeply in this team - in how they prepare and their dedication to being the best that they can be."
WSU shot 35-over par (323) in the final round to bring its three-round total to 942 (+78). Three Pac-12 competitors finished in the top three as no team shot under-par. No. 2 UCLA led each of the three rounds and won the tournament at 868 (+4), 14 strokes ahead of second-place finisher No. 18 Arizona State (+18, 882). California finished third at 888 (+24).
In her lowest round of the tournament, sophomore Alivia Brown shot 4-over par (76) in the third round. Brown, who tied for 43rd (+17, 233), finished 20 strokes back of tournament-champion Louise Ridderstrom UCLA (-3, 213), who beat teammate Bronte Law in a two-hole playoff.
Senior Monica Huang finished three strokes back of Brown to tie for 53rd (+20, 236). Freshman Madison Odiorne tied for 68th (+24, 240).
Senior Nani Yanagi tied for 70th (+25, 241). Bree Wanderscheid finished in 86th as she did not complete the third round.
"We have a lot of golf left and I look forward to the opportunities ahead," Kamimura said.
The Cougars will return to the green March 14-15 at Tucson, Ariz., for the Wildcat Invitational.
