Cougars Conclude Play in the Desert

TUCSON, Ariz. – Senior Monica Huang notched her second top-25 finish of the season, tying for 25th, as Washington State women's golf placed 14th at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational after the third and final round Tuesday at Sewailo Golf Club.

The Cougars shot a three-round score of 46-over par (910), one stroke ahead of No. 24 New Mexico, which finished 15th. Tournament-host, No. 12 Arizona, won the tournament after shooting 6-under par (282) in the third round for a three-round total of 7-under par (857).

No. 13 Arizona State finished 11 strokes behind the Wildcats in second at 4-over par (868). No. 21 UNLV (+12, 876), No. 35 Miami (+19, 883), Baylor (+20, 884) and No. 45 Purdue (+20, 884) rounded out the top five places.

A native of Qualicum Beach, B.C., Huang shot 2-over par in each of the three rounds to finish 6-over par (222) and tie for 25th, her best finish since tying for 14th at the Cougar Cup, Sept. 21-22. Arizona's Krystal Quihuis took home the individual title after shooting 7-under par (209) through the three rounds. Sophomore Alivia Brown (Gig Harbor, Wash.) tied for 52nd at 13-over par (229).

WSU sophomore Bree Wanderscheid shot 16-over par (232) to place 65th, while junior Cherokee Kim (DuPont, Wash.) and freshman Madison Odiorne (Bend, Ore.) tied for 66th at 17-over par (233).

WSU returns to the green for the Cowgirl Classic hosted by Wyoming at Maricopa, Ariz., Monday and Tuesday, April 4-5.
