Swimming Finishes Day Two at Pac-12 Championships

Washington State University swimming completed the second day of the Pac-12 Championships where junior Addisynn Bursch broke the school record in the 200 IM. The Cougars remain in eighth place.

“The Cougs swam well today. Addy (Addisynn Bursch) broke the school record in the 20 IM, Kendra Griffin swam a great 500 and Hannah Bruggman crushed the 50 with a 12th place finish,” Head Coach Tom Jager said. “We swam well in the morning and are looking forward to tomorrow.”

In the preliminaries, Bursch, clocked a time of 1:59.87, changing the record books for WSU. In the finals, she finished at 2:00.65, a 16th place finish and eighth in the 'B' final, picking up 11 points for the Cougars. This time qualified as an NCAA 'B' Standard time.

Sophomore Hannah Bruggman, finished 12th in the 50 freestyle, with a time of 22.68, this was the second-fastest time in WSU history and a personal record for Bruggman.

Junior Kendra Griffin clocked her fastest 500 freestyle time in the preliminaries, at 4:51.01, the fourth best time in WSU history. In the finals, she finished at 4:51.08, picking up four points for the Cougars.

More Cougars changed the record books in the preliminaries. Sophomore Rachel Thompson clocked a personal best in the 500 freestyle at 4:52.39, placing her fifth on the WSU Top-Ten List.

Redshirt freshman Jessica Marston also clocked a personal best in the 500 freestyle at 4:53.40, the sixth-fastest time in WSU history.

In the 200 IM, seniors Presley Wetterstrom and Loree Olson, changed the record books as well. Olson clocked a time of 2:02.53, putting her as the sixth-fastest time in school history. Wetterstrom, finished just behind her teammate at 2:02.56, placing her seventh on the WSU Top-Ten List.

Overall, 16 Cougars personal records were broken over the three events.

WSU closed the day with a seventh place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, the team of junior Haley Rose Love, Bursch, junior Hailey Johnson, and Bruggman set the season best time at 1:31.34, and picked up 46 points for WSU.

Stanford is the current leader at 557 points followed by USC (512) and California (477.5)

Washington State returns to the pool tomorrow to compete at the third day of the Pac-12 Championships. Tomorrow's events include the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and the 400 medley relay.
