SERIES HISTORY
USF marks the third WCC opponent for the Cougars of the 2016-17 season after defeating LMU and SMC last weekend. The two teams have met six times with WSU leading 4-2 overall. The last meeting came in 2009 in Pullman with the Cougs winning, 74-57, on Dec. 19. Friday's meeting will be the seventh all-time between the two sides and the third at home for the Cougars (second at Beasley Coliseum).
LAST TIME OUT
Last week the Cougars defeated a pair of WCC opponents with wins over LMU (W, 92-45) and Saint Mary's (85-69). The wins marked the third-straight season WSU has won its opening two contests at home. Four players scored in double figures for the Cougars in the 85-69 victory over Saint Mary's. Junior guard Caila Hailey recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while junior forward Louise Brown added 14 points and eight rebounds, hitting a pair of three-pointers. The Cougars forced 24 turnovers and received 33 points from its bench while holding the Gaels to 41 percent shooting.
ABOUT THE DONS
The Dons enter Friday's contest 2-0 on the season having picked up wins over Sacramento State (W, 91-80) and most recently Seattle (W, 73-59) on Tuesday night. Leading the way for USF is preseason All-WCC pick Rachel Howard who is averaging 22.0 ppg on 56% shooting in two games. Along with Howard, two other Dons have posted double-digit scoring averages through two games in Michaela Rakova (16.0 ppg) and Kalyn Simon (11.0 ppg). As a team the Dons are shooting 46.3% from the floor and 32.3% from deep.
