HOT START FOR FRESHMEN
Freshman Angela Mavrantza impressed against California in the 100 breast clocking in at 1:04.01, just out-touching Maija Roses for the top spot...the win marks the second victory of Mavrantza's young career...the Athens, Greece, native then broke into the WSU All-Time Top 10 with a second-place finish in the 200 breast...her time of 2:16.73 put her in a tie with current teammate Addisynn Bursch for seventh on the list...fellow freshman Ryan Falk added a second-place finish in the 1000 free...her time of 10:11.26 placed her fourth on the WSU All-Time Top 10 list...Mavrantza and Falk began their WSU careers in impressive fashion against USC...Mavrantza notched her first career victory by out-touching USC's Kelsey Kafka to claim the top spot in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.54…She then added a second-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.23…Falk started her WSU career strong with a second-place finish in the 1000 free, clocking a time of 10:24.08, and later added another second-place finish in the 500 free touching in 5:02.37.

LAST TIME IN THE POOL
The Washington State swim team fell in its first road dual meet of the year to last season's NCAA Championship runner-up, No. 8 Stanford, 149-99, Thursday, Oct. 20…Angela Mavrantza continued her strong start to her freshman campaign by finishing third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.41…senior Elise Locke earned a third place finish in the 200 fly touching the wall in 2:02.32…sophomore Jasmine Margetts followed her at 2:05.23…senior Kendra Griffin picked up three points for Washington State in the 1000 free with a time of 10:26.30…sophomore Hannah Bruggman also tallied three points for the Cougars after placing third in the 100 free with a 52.42…junior Anna Brolin finished third in the 100 fly touching the wall in 56.63, just three seconds off her career best…WSU concluded its road trip, falling to No. 9 California, 155-97, at the Spieker Aquatics Complex on Friday, Oct. 21…along with top finishes from Mavrantza and Falk, the Cougars had close races in the 200 fly when senior Elise Locke touched the wall with a time of 2:01.76 to secure second place…fellow senior Kendra Griffin followed Locke with a 2:03.73…Hannah Bruggman placed third in the 100 free with a time of 51.61…Haley Rose Love also added a third-place finish in the 100 back touching the wall at 57.07.

HEAD COACH TOM JAGER TO THE PAC-12 MEN'S ALL-CENTURY TEAM
Washington State University Swimming Head Coach Tom Jager was named to the Pac-12 Men's Swimming Olympic Sports All-Century Team...Jager was inducted for his excellence in freestyle sprints in Pac-12 Swimming at UCLA in 1984-87...he earned five individual NCAA championships and one relay championship...individually, Jager won two NCAA titles in the 100-yard freestyle in the 1983 and 1984, two in the 50-yard freestyle in 1984 and 1985 and one in the 100-yard backstroke in 1985...in 1984, he was named the Pac-10 Swimmer of the Year and later earned two Olympic Gold Medals as a member of relay teams...a panel of 20 coaches, swimmers, administrators and members of the media selected the team consisting of 26 swimmers and six divers, plus a Coach, and Swimmer & Diver of the Century...after college, Jager added two more Olympic Gold medals from relays and a silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle in the 1988 Olympic Games...he closed out his Olympic career in 1992 with a gold medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay and a bronze medal in the 50-meter freestyle.
LAST SEASON
The Cougars finished last year seventh in a tightly contested Pac-12...WSU notched eight dual meet victories last season, including wins over Arizona State, Oregon State, Nebraska and Utah...the Cougars won six-straight dual meets to close out the season for the second-consecutive year...Washington State earned 65 individual wins during the course of the season...WSU broke four school records last season, across four events and recorded 33 WSU top-10 performances.

The Cougars return to the pool, Thursday, Nov. 3, for a meet against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks at Gibb Pool…action begins at 5 p.m.
