STANFORD, Calif. – The Washington State swim team fell in its first road dual meet of the year to last season's NCAA Championship runner-up, No. 8 Stanford, 149-99.

"The Cougs were solid today," Cougar Head Coach Tom Jager said. "There was some good and some not so good. We will need to be more consistent throughout this year if we are going to reach our goals. But we have a really focused team and we will be up for the challenge."

Angela Mavrantza continued her strong start to her freshman campaign by finishing third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.41, the best time of her young career. She then clocked another personal best time in the 200 breast after she finished in 2:20.24 to place third in the 200 breast.

Senior Elise Locke earned a third place finish in the 200 fly touching the wall in 2:02.32. Sophomore Jasmine Margetts followed her at 2:05.23.

Senior Kendra Griffin picked up three points for Washington State in the 1000 free with a time of 10:26.30. Sophomore Hannah Bruggman also tallied three points for the Cougars after placing third in the 100 free with a 52.42.

WSU junior Anna Brolin finished third in the 100 fly touching the wall in 56.63, just three seconds off her career best.

The Cougars are back in the water tomorrow with a dual meet against No. 9 California beginning at 4 p.m.
