The Washington State University swim team travels to Stanford, Calif. to face the No. 8 Stanford Cardinal on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Avery Aquatic Center...the Cougars then travel to Berkley, Calif. to face the No. 9 California Golden Bears on Friday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Spieker Aquatics Complex.

IMPRESSIVE START FOR FRESHMEN
Freshmen Angela Mavrantza and Ryan Falk began their WSU careers in impressive fashion against USC...Mavrantza, a native of Athens, Greece, notched her first career victory by out-touching USC's Kelsey Kafka to claim the top spot in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.54…Mavrantza added a second-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.23…Falk started her WSU career strong with a second-place finish in the 1000 free, clocking a time of 10:24.08, and later added another second-place finish in the 500 free touching in 5:02.37.

LAST TIME IN THE POOL
Washington State opened the season against the defending Pac-12 Champions, No. 6 Southern California, with a 161-96 defeat at Gibb Pool…Jasmine Margetts impressed in the 200 fly, finishing second with a time of 2.03.96, while also touching second in the 200 back at 2:03.52…Margetts finished third in the 200 IM with a 2:08.10, en route to team-high 17 points…junior Hannah Bruggman recorded a second-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 23.94, touching the wall in of Haley Rose Love (24.12)…senior Elise Locke placed third in the 100 fly with a time of 56.95, followed by a third place finish in the 100 free by Bruggman with a time of 52.60…in the 400 free relay, the team of Bruggman, Love, Hailey Johnson and Falk finished the meet third in a tightly contested race that saw USC use a late push to steal a win.

HEAD COACH TOM JAGER TO THE PAC-12 MEN'S ALL-CENTURY TEAM
Washington State University Swimming Head Coach Tom Jager was named to the Pac-12 Men's Swimming Olympic Sports All-Century Team...Jager was inducted for his excellence in freestyle sprints in Pac-12 Swimming at UCLA in 1984-87...he earned five individual NCAA championships and one relay championship...individually, Jager won two NCAA titles in the 100-yard freestyle in the 1983 and 1984, two in the 50-yard freestyle in 1984 and 1985 and one in the 100-yard backstroke in 1985...in 1984, he was named the Pac-10 Swimmer of the Year and later earned two Olympic Gold Medals as a member of relay teams...a panel of 20 coaches, swimmers, administrators and members of the media selected the team consisting of 26 swimmers and six divers, plus a Coach, and Swimmer & Diver of the Century...after college, Jager added two more Olympic Gold medals from relays and a silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle in the 1988 Olympic Games...he closed out his Olympic career in 1992 with a gold medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay and a bronze medal in the 50-meter freestyle.
LAST SEASON
The Cougars finished last year seventh in a tightly contested Pac-12...WSU notched eight dual meet victories last season, including wins over Arizona State, Oregon State, Nebraska and Utah...the Cougars won six-straight dual meets to close out the season for the second-consecutive year...Washington State earned 65 individual wins during the course of the season...WSU broke four school records last season, across four events and recorded 33 WSU top-10 performances.

Washington State will return home to race against UCLA on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. at Gibb Pool.
