PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State held its final scrimmage of fall camp at Martin Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Cougars threw two touchdowns and rushed for three scores while the defense registered seven sacks, two interceptions and recovered a fumble.
Quarterback Tyler Hilinski threw for 171 yards and two scores and also opened the scoring 14-yard touchdown run. Wideout Kyle Sweet followed with a leaping touchdown grab on Hilinski's next series. Running back Alijah Lee added two short touchdown runs and running back Gerard Wicks scored on a short pass from two yards out. Kicker Erik Powell went 1-for-2 on his field goal attempts, missing from 45 but hammered one through from 55 yards out.
Sweet led all receivers with five receptions for 69 yards and a scored while freshman Isaiah Johnson-Mack added four catches for 36 yards. Running back James Williams led the way on the ground with 29 yards on three carries including a 27-yard scamper.
Defensively, Charleston White picked off Luke Falk and Kirkland Parker later made a diving interception on Hilinski. The defense also saw Darius Lemora force a fumble near the goalline. Seven sacks were recorded.
The Cougars continue fall practice Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at Rogers Practice Field.
