PULLMAN, Wash. – Former Washington State rower, Liz England, has been named an assistant rowing coach, WSU head rowing coach, Jane LaRiviere, announced Wednesday.

"I'm thrilled that Liz has joined our coaching staff," LaRiviere said. "She has always been passionate about rowing and I am excited to see that same enthusiasm spill into her coaching.  She recently completed a master's degree and has been coaching this summer for NYAC.   I am really looking forward to getting her involved with our team."

A native of Richlands, Va., England transferred to WSU prior to her sophomore season, the 2009-10 school year, after rowing at Clemson as a freshman. As a sophomore she rowed with the varsity four and second varsity eight crews, finishing eighth with the second varsity eight boat at the 2010 NCAA Championships. England rowed with the varsity eight and second varsity eight crews as a junior, helping the second varsity eight boat to a 10th-place finish at the 2011 NCAA Championships. She rowed with the varsity eight boat as a senior and was named to the 2012 U.S. Under-23 Team the following summer.

"I'm ecstatic to be returning to Pullman. It's been a place that helped shape me when I was a student and I'm looking to being a part of the awesome environment now as a member of the coaching staff," England said. "Jane and Josh (Adam, associate head coach) have been helpful and great sources of wisdom as I transitioned into a coaching roll after I retired from elite competition and the opportunity to work with them is something I'm incredibly thankful for."

The Cougars finished 12th at the 2016 NCAA Championships in their fourth-straight NCAA appearance. She joins a coaching staff that includes LaRiviere, associate head coach Josh Adam and assistant coach Karl Huhta
