PLEASANTON, Calif. – The Washington State women's golf team is tied for seventh with No. 12 Stanford, in a field that features nine top-25 teams, after the first round of the Pac-12 Championships, Monday, at Ruby Hills Golf Course.
WSU (-1, 287) leads No. 13 Washington, Oregon State, and No. 15 California, and trails tournament-leader, No. 2 USC (-10, 278) by nine strokes heading into the second round. No. 1 UCLA (-6, 282) and No. 10 Arizona State (-3, 285) round out the top three. Three teams are tied for fourth at 2-under par (286).
"We had a great day and put together a solid first round," WSU Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said. "It is always a good day when you shoot under par as a team."
Junior Cherokee Kim and sophomore Alivia Brown are tied for fifth with nine other golfers after shooting 2-under (70) in the first round. Four strokes separate the duo from Arizona's Haley Moore, who leads the field at 6-under (66). Kim and Brown are tied with the No. 1, No. 5, No. 14 and No. 19 golfers in the nation in UCLA's Bronte Law, USC's Robynn Ree, UCLA's Lilia Vu, and Colorado's Esther Lee, respectively. Five others are tied with the Cougar duo for fifth.
At 1-over par (73), senior Nani Yanagi is tied for 32nd, one stroke ahead of fellow senior Monica Huang. Huang is tied for 39th (+2, 74). Sophomore Bree Wanderscheid is in 55th (+9, 81).
