THIS WEEK: The Washington State women's golf team will participate in its second-straight tournament in the state of Arizona as it heads to Maricopa, Ariz., to compete at the Cowgirl Classic, hosted by Wyoming, Monday through Tuesday, April 4-5.
THE TOURNAMENT: Two rounds will be played Monday at the par-72, 6,231-yard Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, signaled by a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. MT…the third and final round will be played Tuesday, with tee times yet to be determined.
THE FIELD: Joining WSU and tournament-host Wyoming in the 19-team field will be Boise State, Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Montana, Montana State, Nevada (last year's champion), Northern Arizona, Portland State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Seattle, Southern Utah, UC-Riverside, UTEP, Utah Valley, and Weber State.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougars will be senior Monica Huang, sophomore Alivia Brown, junior Cherokee Kim, senior Nani Yanagi and sophomore Bree Wanderscheid…freshman Madison Odiorne will compete as an individual.
LAST TIME AT THE COWGIRL CLASSIC: WSU finished second in a field of 22 teams at the 2015 event, carding a score of 31-over par (895), seven strokes behind tournament-champion Nevada…three Cougars finished in the top-25, highlighted by then-senior Kristen Rue's fifth-place effort (+4, 220)…with a three-round total of 222 (+6), Brown tied for 13th…Kim tied for 22nd at 225 (+9).
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: WSU finished 14th (+46, 910) at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, March 15, at the Sewailo Golf Club…host-school No. 12 Arizona won the tournament (-7, 857), 11 strokes ahead of second-place finisher, No. 13 Arizona State (+4, 868)…in her best finish since September, Huang recorded her second top-25 performance of the season with a three-round total of 222 (+6) to tie for 25th…Brown tied for 52nd at 13-over par (229).
COACHING STAFF: The Cougars are led by seventh-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the team to its lowest team scoring average in school history last season…assisting Kamimura is WSU alumna and second-year assistant coach Emma Betland, who golfed for the Cougars from 2010-2013.

NEXT UP: Washington State will travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the PING/ASU Invitational, its third consecutive tournament in the state of Arizona, April 8-10, before heading to Pleasanton, Calif., to close out the season at the Pac-12 Championships, April 18-20.
