2016 Indoor T&F Season in Review

WASHINGTON STATE INDOOR T&F SEASON A TIME OF GROWTH
The Washington State men's and women's track and field teams found success as individuals, relays and teams in the 2016 indoor season...six women added or improved their standings ten times in the WSU top ten all-time bests lists in six events and six men did the same in three events...Cougar women's team reached its highest Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships finish since 2004 with fourth place (54.5 points)...during the season, CharLee Linton broke the WSU indoor 5000m record, Dino Dodig broke the WSU men's heptathlon record, and the men's distance medley relay team broke the freshman school record twice.
WAYNE PHIPPS, DIR. OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (Univ. of British Columbia '91/Oregon '94) become the 15th coach to take the reins of the Washington State men's program and the second coach for the combined men's and women's program at WSU on July 1, 2014...Phipps had been the University of Idaho's Director and Track & Field/Cross Country from 2010 through 2014, and was a coach with the Vandals program for a total of 19 years...he served as co-head coach from 2000-09, after serving as an assistant coach from 1995-99... while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 total conference titles.
COUGAR TRACK & FIELD COACHING STAFF
WSU Track & Field coaching staff includes Associate Head Coaches Julie Taylor (throws), and  Yogi Teevens (sprints, relays and horizontal jumps)...Assistant Coaches are Brad Walker (vertical jumps), and Allix Potratz-Lee (distance)...Andrea Sabbatine is the Operations Coordinator...volunteeers working with the WSU track and field this year include: Jesse Jorgensen, Nigel Joseph, Hannah Kiser, Josiah Sims, Tim Taylor, and Liga Velvere.

WSU HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2016 MPSF CHAMPIONSHIPS
The WSU women's team finished fourth with 54.5 points, the best MPSF finish since 2004...Cougar men's team struggled and finished 12th (19 points)...Liz Harper and Alissa Brooks-Johnson finished two-three in the pentathlon with Harper's 4,146 points being third-best total in WSU records and included a high jump of 1.81m/5-11 1/4 which is tied for ninth in school records...WSU women tallied 16.5 points in the high jump with Kiana Davis winning with a PR of 1.79m/5-10 1/2, Liz Harper took third at the same height, while Audrey Ketcham and Lateah Holmes finished in a four-way tie at eighth (1.64m/5-4 1/2)...Davis captured third-place in the triple jump (12.55m/41-2 1/4 - 10th-best in WSU all-time records) and Greer Alsop was fifth...CharLee Linton took third place in the 5000m with a PR and WSU indoor school record time of 16:34.89, also seventh-best all-time in WSU history...women's 4x400m relay team of Dominique Keel, Brooks-Johnson, Christiana Ekelem and Harper took third place (3:41.05) and Keel took seventh place in the 400m dash (PR 54.69)...on the men's side, Dino Dodig reached a PR and school record of 5,635 points for fourth place in the heptathlon...freshman Ja'Maun Charles was sixth in the 60m dash and eighths in 200m...distance medley relay team broke their frosh school record time set earlier this season...Chandler Teigen, Ray Littles, Reid Muller and Nathan Tadesse finished seventh (9:53.49)...Thane Pierson tied for fifth place in the high jump at 2.10m/6-10 3/4.

The NCAA descending order lists can be viewed at the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track & Field Results Reporting System website (www.tfrrs.org)...the top 16 individuals and 12 relays moved on to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships March 11-12 in Birmingham, Alabama...best marks for the Cougars for the 2016 indoor season can be found at www.wsucougars.com.
