T&F Set for MPSF Indoor Championships This Weekend

The Washington State men's and women's track and field teams travel to Seattle for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, Fri., Feb. 26 (Noon), and Sat., Feb. 27 (10:30 a.m.), at the Dempsey Indoor Facility...scoring is 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1...14 schools with both men's and women's teams: Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, California, Cal State Northridge, Colorado, Long Beach State, Oregon, Portland, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington and WSU...five schools have women's only teams: Cal State Fullerton, Hawai'i, Oregon State, UC Irvine, and Utah...Live results through wsucougars.com/Track&Field/Schedule/Results available Feb. 26...results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, at the completion of each day's events.

Wayne Phipps (Univ. of British Columbia '91/Oregon '94) become the 15th coach to take the reins of the Washington State men's program and the second coach for the combined men's and women's program at WSU on July 1, 2014...Phipps had been the University of Idaho's Director and Track & Field/Cross Country from 2010 through 2014, and was a coach with the Vandals program for a total of 19 years...he served as co-head coach from 2000-09, after serving as an assistant coach from 1995-99... while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 total conference titles.

WSU Track & Field coaching staff includes Associate Head Coaches Julie Taylor (throws), and  Yogi Teevens (sprints, relays and horizontal jumps)...Assistant Coaches are Brad Walker (vertical jumps), and Allix Potratz-Lee (distance)...Andrea Sabbatine is the Operations Coordinator...volunteeers working with the WSU track and field this year include: Jesse Jorgensen, Nigel Joseph, Hannah Kiser, Josiah Sims, Tim Taylor, and Liga Velvere.

Established in 1992 to serve the competitive needs of members of the Pac-12, Big West, Mountain West, Western Athletic and West Coast Conferences and other selected universities in the western United States , the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation provides Division I championships in selected sports...at the 2015 MPSF T&F Indoor Championships, the WSU men's scored 24.5 points (10th) and the women scored 36 points (8th)...for the 2016 championships, the returning WSU women scorers are: Alissa Brooks-Johnson, Pentathlon: 2014 - 7th and 2015 - 5th; Danielle Darden, 200m: 2015 - 4th; Kiana Davis, High Jump: 2015 - 5th; Kristine Felix, Pole Vault: 2013 - 2nd), 2014 - 2nd and 2015 - 5th; Dominique Keel, 200m: 2014 - 8th and 2015 - 8th; Audrey Ketcham, High Jump: 2015 - 4th; Kayla Warren, Triple Jump: 2015 - 4th...returning WSU men scorers are: CJ Allen, 400m: 2015 - 7th; Terrance Chambers, 200m: 2015 - 3rd; Dino Dodig, Heptathlon: 2014 - 3rd and 2015 - 3rd; Travis Pickett, Weight Throw: 2014 - 8th; Thane Pierson, High Jump: 2015 - 8th; Austin Sodorff, Pole Vault: 2015 - 5th...WSU's men's team won the title in 1998 (Reno) and again in 2001 (Flagstaff), and had runner-up finishes in 1999 (Reno), 2002 (Flagstaff) and in 2009 (Seattle)...Cougar women's team won the title in 1999 (Reno) and 2000 (Reno), and finished second in 1998.
