Cougar Swimming Opens Season Friday Hosting Stanford

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University swim team opens its 2015-16 season with a home meet against Stanford at Gibb Pool…the Cougars will face the Cardinal in a dual meet Friday Sept. 25 at 2 p.m....Stanford is coming off a notable 2014-15 season where they placed second in the Pac-12 Championships and third at the NCAA Championships.
Washington State returns 14 swimmers from last season and welcomes in seven newcomers.
Last season...Washington State defeated Pac-12 foes Arizona State, Oregon State, and Utah, marking the first time in program history the Cougars defeated three conference opponents in a season...The Cougars broke four school records in the 2014-15 season, across three events. Then-junior Presley Wetterstrom set a school record in the 200 breast, WSU's 200 free relay team broke the school record twice in the season, and graduated-senior Nicole Proulx closed her WSU career with a school record in the 100 free...The Cougars won six-straight dual meet victories to close the season. The streak marked the first time since the 2008-09 season the WSU swim team won six-straight dual meets...In total, 10 WSU swimmers earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors. Hailey Johnson, Alison Mand, Shaya Schaedler, and Presley Wetterstrom were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team...Over the course of last season, the Cougars recorded 30 WSU all-time top-10 performances...Washington State's swimmers recorded 64 career bests throughout the season.
