Women's Golf Wins Cougar Cup

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University women's golf team won the WSU Cougar Cup with a total score of 866 (-3) at Palouse Ridge Golf Club, Tuesday, in a field of 12 teams.

This marks the third-consecutive year the Cougars have taken the top spot in the event, with this year's three-round total being a team-best in Cougar Cup play.

Junior Cherokee Kim won her first collegiate tournament after a third round 73 (+1) brought her overall score to 211 (-5). Kim's previous best finish was at last season's Cowgirl Classic, at Maricopa, Ariz., where she tied for 22nd place.

Bree Wanderscheid came in a personal-best fifth place with a three-round score of 217 (+1). Competing as an individual, the sophomore carded two birdies on the back nine to finish one stroke ahead of teammates sophomore Alivia Brown and senior Nani Yanagi. The duo tied for sixth (+2, 218).

In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Madison Odiorne stayed even with par in the final round to tie for ninth place (+4, 220).

Seniors Monica Huang and Rachel Lewis rounded out the top-25. Huang eagled on the 16th hole and tied for 14th (+6, 222). Lewis finished tied for 25th (+10, 226) after carding three birdies in the final round. Sophomore Jamie Midkiff tied for 69th (+32, 248).

Next up, the Cougars will compete at the Ron Moore Invitational, Oct. 9-11, at the University of Denver's Highlands Ranch Golf Club.
