Cougar Swimming Heads To Ohio State Invitational

The Washington State University swim team travels to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the Ohio State University Invitational at the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion...the invite will begin on Friday, Nov. 20 and end on Sunday, Nov. 22...the events will be all day.

COMING UP
The Cougars will face Seattle University in a dual meet on Saturday Dec. 5 at 12 p.m. at the Connolly Center in Seattle, Wash.

COUGARS EARN NO.31 NATIONAL RANKING
Washington State is ranked No. 31 by CollegeSwimming.com...WSU moved up one spot after defeating San Diego State University and the University of New Mexico on Nov. 7...the Cougars were ranked the highest in school history in the initial rankings at No.16...WSU is one of seven teams in the Pac-12 that is ranked in the top-50...they appear ahead of Arizona State (45).

LAST TIME OUT
Washington State claimed ten wins in a sweep against San Diego State University and the University of New Mexico at the Aztec Aquaplex on Saturday Nov. 7...the Cougars defeated SDSU 161.5-132.5 and New Mexico 195-93...freshman Jasmine Margetts had a notable meet; she set an Aztec Aquaplex record with a win in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.29, the fourth best time in WSU history...Margetts' second win came in the 100 back when she touched the wall first at 56.46, a season best...three other Cougars also picked up two wins...junior Kendra Griffin dominated the distance events, she finished first in the 1000 freestyle at 10:16.07, the tenth best time in school history...Griffin also won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:01.49...senior Presley Wetterstrom won the breaststroke events, adding two more wins to a team-high of six wins this season...in the 100 she finished with a time of 1:04.24, a season best...in the 200 she touched the wall at 2:15.79, the seventh-fastest time in WSU history...junior Addisynn Bursch picked up a win in the 200 freestyle, with a season best time of 56.46...Bursch also claimed the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.34, breaking into the WSU Top-10 list at seventh...junior Elise Locke picked up one more win for the Cougars in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.15, a season best for her and the fifth-fastest time in WSU history.

COUGAR SWIMMING ADDS NLI SIGNEE RYAN FALK
Ryan Falk signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Washington State women's swimming team next season. Falk is out of Jesuit High School in Portland, Ore. As a junior, Falk was a first-team All-State selection after placing second in the 200 free and third in the 500 free at the state finals, setting the school record in the 200 free. Her senior season will start in December. Prior to swimming for coach Bryan Butcher at JHS, Falk attended Batavia High School in Bativia, Ill. as a freshman and sophomore. “Ryan is going to be a great addition to this team,” Jager said. “She can swim a lot of events well, she loves to work hard and compete in the pool. She will be a great Coug!” Falk also swam 10 years for the St. Charles Swim Team (Club) for coach Tim Lewarchick and two years for coach Franz Resseguie of the Tualatin Hills Swim Club. Among Oregon's 17-18 year-old division, Falk clocked state's No. 1 times in the 800 free, 1000 free and 1500 free while posting the second-fastest times in the 500 free and 400 free. Falk's sister, Taylor is a sophomore on the University of Idaho swim team.

MARGETTS, WETTERSTROM OLYMPIC TRIAL QUALIFIERS
Last summer, two Cougars qualified for the U.S. Olympic Time Trials...freshman Jasmine Margetts competed at the U.S. Junior Nationals...Margetts, a Torrance, Calif. native, re-qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 fly after posting a time of 2:14.84, finishing No. 12…senior Presley Wetterstrom qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trial in the 200 breaststroke last June in Santa Clara, Calif…the Colfax, Calif. native swam a time of 2:34.02 in the 'B' final to finish 14th overall...both swimmers will travel to Omaha, Neb. for the trials set for June 26-July 3, 2016 ...the team trial is the sole qualifier for swimmers hoping to earn a spot on the USA Swimming Olympic Team that will compete at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
