THIS WEEK
The Washington State University swim team travels to Tempe, Ariz. to face Arizona State University on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center...the Cougars then travel to Tucson, Ariz. to face the University of Arizona and UNLV on Friday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
COMING UP
Washington State will travel to San Diego, Calif. to race against San Diego State University and the University of New Mexico on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Aztec Aquaplex...on Nov. 20-22 the Cougars will race in Columbus, Ohio at the Ohio State Invitational.
COUGARS EARN NO.30 NATIONAL RANKING
Washington State is ranked No. 30 by CollegeSwimming.com...the Cougars fell six spots from last week at No. 24...WSU did not race this past week...the Cougars were ranked the highest in school history two weeks ago at No.16...WSU is one of six teams in the Pac-12 that is ranked in the top-50...they appear ahead of Utah (36).
LAST TIME OUT
Washington State tallied three first place finishes against the defending national champions, the University of California, in a 299.5-131.5 defeat at Gibb Pool...senior Presley Wetterstrom earned two wins in both the 100 breaststroke (104.62) and 200 breaststroke (2:16.53)...Wetterstrom's 200 breaststroke time at 2:16.53 landed her sixth on the WSU Top-10 list...Wetterstrom led the Cougars with the most points at 24...freshman Linnea Lindberg clocked a time of 30.19 in the 50 breaststroke, earning her first collegiate win...junior Elise Locke broke into the WSU Top-10 list twice against California...in the 100 butterfly Locke touched the wall third at 55.69 placing her 10th on the list...in the 200 butterfly Locke finished at 2:02.81 earning a sixth place spot on the list...the Cougars have earned a total of seven spots on the top-10 list so far this season.
MARGETTS, WETTERSTROM OLYMPIC TRIAL QUALIFIERS
Over the summer, two Cougars qualified for the U.S. Olympic Time Trials...freshman Jasmine Margetts competed at the U.S. Junior Nationals...Margetts, a Torrance, Calif. native, re-qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 fly after posting a time of 2:14.84, finishing No. 12…senior Presley Wetterstrom qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trial in the 200 breaststroke last June in Santa Clara, Calif…the Colfax, Calif. native swam a time of 2:34.02 in the 'B' final to finish 14th overall...both swimmers will travel to Omaha, Neb. for the trials set for June 26-July 3, 2016 ...the team trial is the sole qualifier for swimmers hoping to earn a spot on the USA Swimming Olympic Team that will compete at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
LAST SEASON
The Cougars finished last year eighth in the Pac-12...WSU won six-straight dual meets to close the season, the longest streak since the 2008-09...two current swimmers earned Pac-12 All-Academic First Team, Hailey Johnson and Presley Wetterstrom...the Cougars broke four school records last season, across three events and recorded 30 WSU top-10 performances....WSU swimmers recorded 64 career bests throughout the season.
