Box Score WAIPAHU, Hawaii – Washington State battled No. 11 Pepperdine to a hard-fought 0-0 draw at The Outrigger Resorts Soccer Classic at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium, Friday.
With the result, the Cougars (2-0-2) posted their seventh-straight shutout, a school record, and extended their shutout streak to 762:47, the longest active stretch in the country.
“I am with the result to an extent because we are not giving up goals,” Washington State Head Coach Steve Nugent said. “I thought we applied better pressure in the first half. We could have done a better job with the chances we created offensively. I thought (midfielder) Nicole Setterlund played her best game of the season and Gurveen Clair came up with two big saves for us.”
Clair was forced to make three saves as the Waves (4-0-1) outshot the Cougars 6-4 after Washington State held Pepperdine without a shot in the first half. The Cougars earned two corner kicks to one for the Waves in a match that saw 27 fouls called.
Washington State will face tournament host Hawaii, Sunday at 8 p.m. Pacific/5 p.m. Hawaii.
